THE HARDWARE The GPS Ranger Unit: The lightweight easy to use handheld unit is tough and water-resistant. High speed GPS receiver and location memory ensures quick lock on times. The display is a sun viewable high resolution touch screen. It is available with both stereo speakers for family and vehicle based tours, as well as headphones. Volume is fully adjustable.
With a battery life of between 3 and 8 hours depending on the version selected it offers flexibility for a wide range of tours. Tours can be multi language and close captioned for the hearing impaired. Integrated charging control and download hardware allows simple on site management The Charging and Checkout Rack: A free standing unit designed to look good on site. Fully integrated management server is included which controls the recharging of all the handheld devices as well as the checkout process. A touch screen enables the selection of the tours, languages and other features to be managed by venue staff without extensive training. The management server also carries out diagnostic checks and automatically controls the update of content and software. Checking out Ranger units is carried out online automatically by the management server so is fast and secure. |
THE SOFTWARE The Central Editing Facility (CEF): This is a web enabled facility that provides a central point for the creation, control and management of the tours. The CEF can be accessed by venue authorised individuals (using a login and password) via a PC. The Central Editing Facility also records statistics and can generate reports such as the usage of the handheld devices, the routes taken by visitors and details of popular attractions. This enables the management of the venue to better plan and manage their tours and accounting. The Checkout or Venue Server: This software is preloaded onto the PC that is built into the Charging and Checkout Rack. It controls the charging, diagnostics and updating the tours in the Ranger units. The software controls the selection of tours for the visitor, as well as the choice of language.
Training personnel to use the Venue Server takes only minutes. Its flexibility enables operators to check out one unit, multiple units, different tour types and different priced tours. The GPS Ranger Software: Every unit comes preloaded with software which provides the interface between the device and user. It includes a welcome interactive video and tutorial on using the device plus the tour content. |
